A Large Trex Deck Remodel – Springfield, VA

The old wooden deck with 24″ spaced joists – possibly built in the 80’s , got replaced with these beautiful Trex Transcend boards. Unfortunately, after a very hot summer day of 100-degree weather, we had a storm, and the pictures aren’t giving it justice.

For the best performance and to meet the current building code, a 24″ O.C. spaced joist is no longer acceptable. We sister joisted the unstable joists and added a joist in between so that it would give us the ideal joist spacing of 12″ O.C. for a composite decking board (if installed angled). When installed straight 16″ O.C. is the required minimum spacing. Solar post cap lights were installed on every other post and a drink board was also installed. Another deck to last 20-25 years maintenance free. A light wash every summer is recommended to keep your boards free of pollen and dust accumulation.
